Pandrol unveils innovation in track welding 07 January 2025

Global rail infrastructure specialist Pandrol has unveiled its revolutionary i+weld product range with the promise of transforming the process of track welding through automation and data. Its capabilities extend to manufacturing castings and plastics, track electrification and creating equipment for track construction, fastening installation and welding.

The innovation was presented on the opening day of InnoTrans as a panel of Pandrol leaders, headed up by CEO Nicolas Groult, launched the new state of the art technology through a series of expert demonstrations in Berlin.

The i+weld solution is made of seven devices – including the newly-patented i+align – and relies on automation and data to improve the overall operational experience. The product, Pandrol highlights, is capable of increasing quality, reliability and productivity by 40% as well as safety and ergonomics.

Having started design work back in 2018, Pandrol’s team of engineers believe the i+weld solution will support railway networks and contractors faced with a rising shortage of skilled aluminothermic welders and a flash butt welding method which has proven financially unsustainable on smaller projects.

Nicolas Groult, who was joined at the launch by Thibaut Descamps, head of EMEA, Frederic Delcroix, technical director and Maria Nilsson head of equipment product line, spoke of his immense pride at seeing Pandrol maintain its place as a true innovator within the rail infrastructure sector. “Pandrol’s long-held traditions of design excellence, product reliability and skilled engineering have ensured our place as a recognised leader within the rail infrastructure market.”

Nicolas continues: “Innovation has always been at the heart of Pandrol, and this launch is yet another example of our great company stepping forward to deliver a product which will not only make the process of track welding easier, but will also make it more efficient, more sustainable and more reliable. The i+weld solution promises to revolutionise the welding process across the globe in what we truly believe is a game-changing moment for the industry.”
