The hygienic cable tie solution for medical environments 08 May 2020

With advancements in medical technology comes further use of electrical devices and greater hazard risks caused by the cables that power these devices. The HellermanTyton designed Cable Koala, a magnetic cable tie for fastening to metal services, provides a soft and flexible solution for cable management within a medical environment.

Constructed out of TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) material, HellermanTyton states the smooth surface of the Cable Koala aids the prevention of bacteria build-up that the recesses on regular cable ties can potentially trap.

The Cable Koala can also be attached to metal surfaces, or to itself, due to the encased magnetic fastening element at the ends of the strap. At 330mm long and 15mm wide, it is ideal for use within a hospital environment where cables and tubes need to be regularly moved and hygiene levels maintained.

Infection control in healthcare and medical environments
Infection control within a medical environment is essential and HellermanTyton believe that the benefits of the Cable Koala make it the ideal product to adhere to the strict requirements of medical applications. For instance, when a patient is discharged, a routing discharge clean of the area is undertaken. This requires equipment and cabling to be removed in order to clean the area and the quick release magnets of the cable tie means users can save time during this process. The Cable Koala is also chemical and weathering resistant with a smooth finish, enabling re-usability and adherence to correct cleaning procedures, providing a hygienic, cost-effective solution for hospitals.
