Weicon has introduced Food Grade, a flowable two component epoxy resin system which can be used both as a coating and as an adhesive in the food industry.
The system has a high proportion of fine mineral fillers, is easy to apply and adheres to a wide variety of surfaces even under mechanical stress. Food Grade has very good chemical resistance and is suitable for coating a wide variety of parts such as pumps, conveyor systems, lifting screws, hoppers, tanks and pipes.
Food Grade has been approved by the Ruhr District Institute of Hygiene for contact with aqueous and fatty foods up to 70°C. The epoxy also has drinking water approval in accordance with BS 6920.
Thanks to its certification for use in food contact applications, the coating can be used for applications in the drinking water sector, the beverage industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the chemical industry, in commercial kitchens, bakeries or in food production.
As Food Grade is a plastic metal epoxy resin system, after mixing the two components, the product cures at room temperature to a solid, metal-like material, which can then be machined, drilled, milled, sanded or filed, if required.
