Simplifying adhesive application 02 December 2022

Permabond has a wide range of high-performance two-component adhesives designed for a variety of applications. Now, the company has launched some of its most popular adhesives in dual syringes, allowing users to apply the adhesives without dispensing guns. The revised products can be mixed via a static mixing nozzle, so no weighing or manual mixing is required.

The first in the range of dual syringes is Permabond ET5003. This metal repair compound is able to rapidly cure at room temperature. Post cure, the material has a metallic appearance and is solid, allowing for sanding and painting if required. The adhesive is suitable for fixing or rebuilding damaged metal parts such as splines, gears, keyways, worn bearings or for the structural bonding of metal components. It forms high strength bonds and has high resistance to harsh environmental conditions.

Permabond ET500 is an epoxy product which, Permabond states, has been popular among engineers for many years. It has a gel time of three to five minutes and a colourless appearance. The epoxy is ideal for general purpose applications as it bonds well with a wide variety of materials including metals, plastics, wood, ceramics, composites and other substrates.

Also given a dual syringe option is Permabond TA4204, a fast cure strength development adhesive which cures colourless. This makes the adhesive ideal for transparent plastics such as acrylic and polycarbonate. It also forms a high strength structural bond with metal and composite material, as the product has rubber toughening to ensure resistance against impact and vibration stresses. TA4204 is supplied with a mixing nozzle but can also be used without.

The Permabond TA4207 adhesive can tolerate unprepared surfaces, such as oily steel and oxide layers on metals, which ultimately allows for an easier cleaning process. With this solution, time is saved on production lines and the need for solvent cleaners is reduced. TA4207, thanks to its tolerant disposition, can be used to bond almost everything, apart from low surface energy plastics.

The final adhesive added to the dual syringe range is Permabond TA4611, designed for low surface energy plastics, but is also capable of bonding to other materials. There is no need to carry out any flame, corona or plasma treatment, there is also no need to use etching solution for this product. Permabond also offers TA4631, a no-odour version of TA4611 which is ideal for workplaces where ventilation is difficult or where there is concern over residual odour on a bonded assembly.
