A new set of single pass drill bits 06 October 2022

A recent addition to the Laser Tools range is a set of six drill-tap bits designed to drill and tap a hole in a single pass. Laser Tools states each bit has been manufactured from high speed steel and coated with a hard, ceramic titanium-nitride coating. This design ensures edge retention and corrosion resistance.

The ¼ inch hex drive drill-tap bits feature a drill section at the forward end of each bit. This ensures the correct sized tap hole in the material is made. The following tap section of the bit then cuts the threads. Each bit includes a spiral flute which clears the swarf that is created, as well as a deburring shoulder to ensure the edge of the hole is finished without sharp edges.

The set from Laser Tools, part of Tool Connection Ltd, includes bits with M3, M4, M5, M6, M8 and M10 sizes. All the drill bits are suitable for drilling and tapping iron or carbon steel plates up to 3mm thickness, in addition to aluminium or copper plates up to 6mm thickness. In the set, a 60mm magnetic bit holder is also included, featuring a quick-chuck end for ease of use.
