A guide to fasteners PPE 10 June 2020

Fasteners for medical equipment are a key element in the fight against Covid-19. Here, fastener specialists JET PRESS provides a guide to the items it can supply after supplying the medical sector for more than 25 years.

Firstly, self-piercing snap rivets can be used to attach textiles, thin card or paper together; making them useful for PPE including facemasks. The sharp point of the male stud pierces the material before fitting into the female collar; then snap off the sharp point to create a clean fixing. Mini rivets from JET PRESS come in a range of sizes and are useful for fastening rigid and compressible materials, such as face visors. Like snap rivets they consist of two parts which snap together.

Also available are cord end stoppers, which help facemask wearers to pull the cord, thread it through the cord end stopper, and then tie a knot in the end. A spring lock cord also allows the wearer to adjust the tightness of cords on clothing, and are available in both single and double sizes.

DOT fasteners and hook and loop tape from JETPRESS are also ideal for fastening things to PPE. Security seals and labels also help to prevent tampering of evidence and increase traceability of clinical waste.

As well as the specialist parts for PPE; JET PRESS can provide regularly used medical fasteners and hardware, which includes gas struts, insert nuts, cable and hose pipe fasteners. The company’s in-house design and manufacturing resources also enables it to provide bespoke fasteners for medical equipment.
