NORMA Group, a market leader in engineered joining technology, will supply various urea transport systems (UTS) to an Italian motor vehicle manufacturer. NORMA Group will produce around 340,000 plastic pipes used for urea injection each year at its Serbian site in Subotica from 2018 to at least 2023.
“Cleaner exhaust from diesel engines continues to be one of the important and longer-term goals of the global automotive industry,” says Werner Deggim, CEO of NORMA Group. “In order to sustainably reduce nitrogen oxides, we need effective solutions that have a long service life and are easy to use. We are continuously developing our urea lines so that they can meet even more stringent requirements.”
Urea transport systems made of special plastics are used in various designs of vehicle. High temperature systems (HT UTS) reliably maintain temperatures from -40 to 160°C and pressures up to 10 bar. Electrically heated systems ensure that the urea solution, which is frozen at very low outside temperatures, thaws and can be injected within a very short time.
The urea solutions AdBlue, AUS32, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and Arla are injected through a high pressure injector into the exhaust flow of diesel engines. The urea solutions lead to selective catalytic reduction (SCR), in which nitrogen oxides and ammonia are split into nitrogen and hydrogen.
