NORMA Group launches new quick connector for use in electric and hybrid cars 05 June 2019

NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, has launched the eM Compact, a new quick connector specially designed for use in thermal management systems of vehicles with electric and hybrid drives.

Optimised for compactness, the eM Compact can be used in thermal management systems inside as well as outside the battery packs of electric or hybrid vehicles. With its compactness, the new e-mobility quick connector helps save space inside the battery pack. This allows for more powerful battery packs to be created by using more battery cells per pack.

Thereby, the eM Compact makes an important contribution not only to the thermal management of electric and hybrid vehicles, but can help increase their range as well. When used in the thermal management systems outside the battery pack, the quick connector supports the cooling of power electronics, charging electronics and HVAC systems.

“With our focus on the electromobility market, it is our aim to provide product solutions that are tailor-made for the specific demands of alternative energy vehicles. The eM Compact brings together our many years of expertise in developing and designing quick connectors with our competency in electromobility. By providing the new, compact quick connector for electric and hybrid vehicles, we are underscoring our position as an innovation leader in the e-mobility sector,” commented Bernd Kleinhens, CEO of NORMA Group.

The eM Compact is made of weight saving and robust thermoplastic and is available in a 90° version and various tube diameters. Individual design modifications are possible on request. The eM Compact is applicable in a temperature range from -40° to +80°C, allowing for short term peak temperatures of up to +110°C. It works at a service pressure of 2.5 bar (peak 3.5 bar). High media resistance against water and glycol ensures the long lifetime of the connector.

The new eM Compact is suitable for plastic, metal machined or cold formed SAE style spigots. Optimised for installation with low assembly force, the eM Compact ensures an easy, quick and precise assembly process.
