Seeloc ensures electrical performance 17 March 2025

When it comes to protecting vital components, washers are typically used with fasteners, including screws and bolts, to distribute the load, prevent damage to sensitive surface materials and reduce the potential for leaks. Proper seals, such as APM’s Seeloc® washers , ensure that both electrical and mechanical equipment continue to perform efficiently and effectively.

APM Hexseal’s UL recognised and patented Seeloc® washers have an elastomer moulded onto the face and work in combination with traditional bolts, screws, or studs to create a tight seal around the fastener. The bonded contact surface features a continuous ridge that creates a 360° sealing barrier around the periphery of the washer face when compressed, while the rubber also forms a seal under the head of the associated fastener and makes full vertical contact with the threads/shank – making for a complete, high pressure seal.

APM provides Seeloc® washers in all standard metric measurements, facilitating an easy selection process for manufacturers around the world. The standard Seeloc® metric washers are manufactured from 18/8 stainless steel and feature a broad temperature range of -103°F to 400°F (-75°C to 204°C), internal and external pressure tolerances up to 100 psi, as well as a shelf life of up to 25 years. Furthermore, the washers are resistant to dust, fungus, most acids and oils, splash, salt spray, sunlight and oZone, to offer a secure seal.

In addition to conventional mounting holes, Seeloc® washers work with oversized holes and adjustment slots with non standard shapes. They also work well for sealing optional knockout holes in electrical boxes and cabinets – with the durability of Seeloc® washers ensuring they can be removed and reused, making them well suited to applications that require periodic maintenance or adjustments, such as hydraulics and braking systems, HVAC products, marine electronics or industrial and construction equipment.

Manufactured using stainless steel, and moulded using a variety of elastomers to suit an individual application, Seeloc® washers offer a variety of customisation options, such as a choice on elastomer material. The standard elastomer material is silicone, due to its superior heat resistance that makes it suitable for environments where the seal will be exposed to large temperature fluctuations, however other elastomer options include EPDM, which is a lower cost material with excellent oZone, weather and heat resistance – working well for outdoor applications. Seeloc® washers can also be manufactured with neoprene for elevated resistance to chemicals, sunlight, oZone, weathering and aging.

APM Hexseal highlights: “Bonded sealing washers provide superior performance over conventional washers in many ways, such as leak prevention, as well as helping to protect the fastener from elevated levels of force once installed. Also, bonded sealing washers are designed to offer exceptional durability in extreme and hazardous conditions, which include wide temperature fluctuations, damaging elements and contaminants. Ultimately, Seeloc® washers are a viable solution to reliably seal hardware for critical electronic and mechanical equipment.”
