ITW’s SPIT brand has made some changes to its popular Tapcon self-tapping screw range, which promises to increase productivity and help installers get the job done faster.
Tapcon anchors are masonry screws designed with Advanced Threadform Technology™, which cuts threads into all masonry materials including concrete, block and brick. Available in a range of diameters and lengths, the Tapcon range has now been updated to include a star recess and underhead ribs, for improved productivity and usability.
Megan Edgar, SPIT product manager – UKI & Nordics, explains: “We used customer feedback and user data to identify areas where we could improve the product and address customer concerns. The new star head has been engineered for a more stable drive with no bit slip, while the hex head now has underhead ribs to increased resistance to anchor spin-outs.”
Both variants of the Tapcon range are manufactured from heat treated carbon steel for increased hardness and ductility. They also benefit from a Climaseal coating, which offers corrosion resistance and long-lasting quality.
Megan adds: “Expansion anchors, such as wedge and sleeve anchors creates pressure on the hole walls. Tapcon anchors cut threads into the hole walls, eliminating pressure and allowing Tapcon anchors to be installed close to an edge and at reduced spacing. In addition, unlike expansion anchors, Tapcon anchors are reversible and removable allowing for greater flexibility on the job.”
