Simpson Strong-Tie is expanding its line of lateral strengthening solutions for steel construction with the introduction of the Strong-Link™ moment connection (SLMC). This bolted solution removes the need for field welding in wind governed and low-seismic structures, drastically cutting labour and inspection costs while speeding up frame installation.
The SLMC can be easily adjusted in the field using standard steel erection practices. Oversized holes in the link flange ensure optimal alignment at the connection interface between the beam and column.
A notched section in the Strong-Link™ moment connection enables it to function without interfering with the shear tabs. This notch allows the link to be used with standard-depth shear tabs, simplifying the connection design, preserving the integrity of the connection and enabling efficient load transfer, while maintaining the overall strength and reliability of the structural system.
“From streamlining the design, fabrication and erection processes to increasing jobsite efficiencies, the new Strong-Link™ moment connection is a smart solution for steel connections,” said RJ Angle, senior product manager for Simpson Strong-Tie. “As with all our solutions, the SLMC is backed by Simpson Strong-Tie’s expert engineering support, services and nationwide distribution network.”
