European summit focuses on lightweighting 25 August 2015

A brand new manufacturing-dedicated conference focusing on revealing the latest joining, forming and production innovations will take place in Birmingham, UK, on 18th – 19th November 2015.

The Inaugural Lightweight Vehicle Manufacturing: Joining, Forming & Assembly Summit 2015 is part of the GALM series of conferences running across three continents, which has seen over 1,500 global delegates, 150 exhibitors, and over 130 hours of OEM led presentations over the last 10 editions.

With new aluminium and steel grades, fibre-reinforced composites, and magnesium offering substantial lightweighting opportunities, the critical challenge facing OEMs is now how to reduce the cost and complexity of multi-material assembly on a mass-scale to take next-generation vehicles from the design room to the forecourt.

For its first manufacturing-focused event in Europe, the summit will focus specifically on reducing the costs and complexity of multi-material joining, forming, fastening, fixing and production of high volume manufacturing for lightweight vehicles. The summit will also enable leading experts from OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and technology providers to converge to one location to discuss the most critical areas.

Confirmed speakers include Gökhan Doğan, new projects engineering team leader at Ford; Alberto Palomar de Mores, manufacturing general manager at Renault; and Mathieu Kielwasser, expert in laser applications responsible for multi technology multi-material assembly at PSA Peugeout Citroen.

The speakers will discuss a number of topics including multi-material joining – leveraging joining methods compatible with diverse material combinations to reduce the number of tools and costs of multi-material joining; and the latest joining tools – reviewing the latest adhesives, mechanical and welding techniques to cost and time sensitively join multi-material architectures.

“Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the first most comprehensive event in European automotive industry focusing specifically on cost-effective manufacturing processes for lightweight vehicles.”
