tesa, an international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, and ZEISS Microoptics, a technology Tier 1 supplier for holographic solutions, have announced a significant cooperation to strengthen holography technology.
Since 2022, the two companies have been successfully collaborating in the fields of holography and customised adhesive solutions. All projects realised to date are characterised by their series production relevance for applications in the mobility and home-tech sectors. The partnership combines ZEISS's expertise in optics with tesa's material competence to develop and bring advanced products to market.
tesa's optical clear adhesives (OCA) are of high importance for holography applications by ZEISS Microoptics. They offer excellent UV-blocking properties, high light transmission and low haze. Further essential advantages are the excellent temperature, moisture and UV resistance. These properties make the OCA materials ideal for applications in the mobility and home-tech sectors for the invisible integration of holography-based products.
"The intensive collaboration with ZEISS Microoptics is a strategically important step for us. For many years, we have been working on optically clear adhesive solutions, particularly for the automotive and electronics industries. This cooperation now allows us to take further steps and significantly shape the market for modern holography solutions," explains Dr. Ingrid Sebald, member of the executive board, technology at tesa. "Our OCA tapes are a crucial key to seamlessly integrating ZEISS's innovative optical systems and enabling groundbreaking applications in the mobility and home-tech industries."
ZEISS Microoptics also sees significant added value in the partnership with tesa. "Our cooperation with tesa is a prime example of how two visionary companies can drive significant innovations by combining their competencies," says Dr. Roman Kleindienst, head of microoptics at ZEISS. "tesa's OCA materials are of high importance to us in developing optimal holographic systems according to customer requirements. With this, we create added value for our customer by precisely directing light where it is needed."
The partnership between ZEISS Microoptics and tesa is based on a mutual interest in disruptive innovation and a long-term commitment to the future. Both companies benefit from a fast and flexible development process enabled by the combination of their respective competencies. Through close collaboration and the exchange of know-how, personnel and materials, product developments can be accelerated and innovative solutions can be advanced to market readiness.
The successful collaboration over the past two years has additionally paved the way for further innovative projects. ZEISS Microoptics is developing, among other things, transparent displays for windshields and side windows as well as head-up displays (HUDs) in the automotive sector. tesa's OCA solutions are particularly suitable for these applications due to their transparency and adhesive properties. New application possibilities, including solutions for energy harvesting, are also being jointly evaluated in the home-tech sector.
