New Master Bond non-solvent epoxy 26 September 2022

Master Bond has released EP4CL-80Med, a new one part, optically clear epoxy which was developed for use in medical device assembly applications.

The new product is suitable for bonding, sealing, impregnating and coating as it provides a high glass transition temperature of 155°C – 160°C and has low viscosity of 50cps – 150cps at 25°C. Therefore, the epoxy can be applied by brushing, spraying and spin coating. The one part epoxy is non-premixed and a frozen system. The product doesn’t contain solvents and Master Bond claims it has unlimited working life at room temperature.

Master Bond insists the epoxy withstands repeated sterilisation cycles, including autoclaving, dry heat, radiation and chemical sterilant. The product also passes ISO 10993-5 testing for non-cytotoxicity. The product cures at moderate temperatures of approximately 80°C – 85°C within 60 – 90 minutes; at slightly higher temperatures the curing process will be faster. EP4CL-80Med provides notable strength properties, including a compressive strength of 12,000psi – 14,000psi and a high tensile modulus of 450,000psi – 500,000psi at room temperature.

The epoxy bonds well to a variety of substrates such as metals, composites, ceramics, and many plastics. Packaging is available in jars and cans, as well as syringes.
